Etrade pro runs via java 7. The site opens just fine. However, I keep getting a message asking permission to open the site every 15 seconds or so after it's up and running. There are cancel / OK buttons on the message, but clicking either won't stop the message from returning.

Any ideas? This problem doesn't happen on Chrome or Safari.

Thanks, stew

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and click History button, and then Clear Recent History... .
  2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  5. Now click the Clear now button.

Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Hello, thanks for the reply. I cleared the cache and history, but now it's worse. Instead of being every 15 seconds or so, the message box pops up immediately. Here is the message: “etpro_launch-54.jnlp” is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" :There's a cancel / open option. Neither helps. Each time the message re appears its one number higher. 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, etc.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

Hi There,

Below is the screen shot of the message. Everytime it pops up, it's one number higher.

Thank you all for the help.

That is a problem with Java that tries to run an applet, but you do not seem the have the JNLP file extension (application/x-java-jnlp-file) registered or you aren't allowing it to run.

You can check the JNLP setting on the Advanced tab in the Java Control Center (JNLP File/MIME Association). JavaWS (Java Web Start).

Checked Java settings. All is well there. This only happens on Firefox. Works fine on Chrome and Safari. I would prefer to use Firefox, but I'm not sure what to do next.
