I have 6 profiles but need to consolidate so I only have 1 "inbox" and 1 "sent" - just converted from Eudora 7 and trying to make user interface similar.

I have just converted from Eudora paid 7 (after many years) to Thunderbird, due to some none supported SSL certificate issues in Eudora.

So far, I like Thunderbird but am trying to emulate the simpler user interface of Eudora. In Thunderbird, my 6 profiles are listed, each with its own "Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Archives & Trash" sub-folders. This is a long menu list on the left side of my screen.

Is there anyway I can consolidate these profiles so all incoming messages appear in just one Inbox, regardless of the target profile. Similarly, can I consolidate the "Sent" and other sub folders?

Thanks for any help you can give.

lets start with some terms.

A profile is something that holds all your Thunderbird settings. I think your calling accounts profiles. but I may be wrong.

You have a couple of options here.

First for POP mail accounts you can use the global inbox Tools Menu > account settings > server settings > advanced Note that makes the account disappear from the folder pane so messages must be moved to the local folders inbox first.

For IMAP accounts there is the unified view of folders View menu > folders > unified. IMAP accounts simply can not use a combined folder due to the synchronisation of messages with the server.

Be very sure which type of account you have configured. IMAP accounts for those that have not used them and are not aware of the synchronisation of mails can be a a "whole new game"

Dear Matt,

You are right, I was confusing the term "profile" for "account." I have 6 accounts.

I haven't had a chance to try your solution but I'm sure it will work. We have just opened our winter home in Florida and am now heading off for a business trip so will get back to you later this week with hopefully a "thumbs up."

Regards,

Dave.

Matt,

Thanks for your patience but while on my business trip last week, I met another experienced Thunderbird user and he showed me how to use View-> Folders -> Unified. This seemed to organize everything the way I need them. Cheers, Dave
