I have recently changed computers and downloaded my thunderbird onto my new laptop. When I want to empty my trash folder, the questions comes up if I permanently want to discard these mails. On my previous computer, the question would come up with the number of mails to be discarded. Now the number does not appear. Is this a problem? I remember a previous download, many years ago when my "c" drive was filled with years of discarded emails that had never been removed but just hidden somewhere. Thanks for answering my question.

I have Thunderbird set to NOT confirm the empty trash command so I cannot comment on a number showing or not. As for large numbers of discarded emails still being hidden somewhere, in Thunderbird when you delete a message it is marked for deletion and hidden from view. They are only removed completely when you Compact your folders. Compacting, though poorly named, has nothing to do with compressing or zipping files to save space. It is a cleanup of messages marked for deletion and should be done on a regular basis.
