I use yahoo mail (mail.yahoo.com) for my email. I can't give you a specific date where my problem began; but, in the last few months, I have experienced a problem where the top portion of the screen disappears. As a result, I cannot "search", go to "Home", Logoff, etc. I have finally resorted to using IE for my email (not my desired browser.) Can you help? Top part normally looks like this:

YAHOO! (box with) Search..... Button for "Search Mail" Button for "Search Web" Home gawilcox
    Mail

I am including screen snippits for FireFox (good at first open and bad-after opening an email, then closing the email). The problem occurred this time after I started YAHOO Mail, and opened an email, then closed the email. At that point the top portion of the screen disappears.

Also, I had to POST this with IE because FireFox would not upload the attachments. From FireFox, I am using: Version 38.0 Windows 7 Installed Plugins:

  • ActiveTouch General Plugin Container Version 105
  • Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.11
  • A plugin to detect whether the Adobe Application Manager is installed on this machine.
  • GEPlugin
  • Google Update
  • Intel web components updater - Installs and updates the Intel web components
  • Intel web components for Intel® Identity Protection Technology
  • NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java(TM) Deploy
  • Next Generation Java Plug-in 11.40.2 for Mozilla browsers
  • The plugin allows you to have a better experience with Microsoft SharePoint
  • NVIDIA 3D Vision Streaming plugin for Mozilla browsers
  • NVIDIA 3D Vision plugin for Mozilla browsers
  • Nok Nok Labs MFACUpdater
  • Shockwave Flash 17.0 r0
  • Zoom Launcher
  • iTunes Detector Plug-in

Hmm, that's very odd. If you zoom out using Ctrl- a couple times, can you shrink the page enough to see that the upper part is still there, but doesn't seem to fit in the space available, or is it completely missing?

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Hello and good morning.

Well, this is very strange. I started FireFox in "safe" mode and ran it all day without any failures. Then, tonight, all of a sudden, it failed (losing the top part of the screen.) I moved to a different email and opened it and it was still failing. Then, I moved to another email and everything went back to normal (seeing the full screen). So, I tested some more until it failed again and, this time, I used CTRL- to "shrink" the screen fonts and the full screen came back after a couple "clicks". So, it appears that whenever this anomaly occurs, I can "shrink" the screen using CTRL-, or, sometimes I can simply open a different email and that will restore it. Bottom line is that it's not consistent enough for me to send you an exact email to test with. This can also occur if I switch to a different folder,. It's just not consistent. But, I only notice this with "yahoo" email. I wish I could give you more data, but it's just too inconsistent...

It's odd to me that content goes off the screen like it has been scrolled up but there's no scroll bar. If you try Ctrl+Home or Ctrl+Up Arrow will the hidden content scroll into view?

more options

There is no scroll bar on the right. Hitting Ctrl-Home, or Ctrl-UP-Arrow do not do anything. Ctrl- shows part of the header, Ctrl- several times will eventually show the entire screen. Ctrl+ when the error first occurs shows the same thing as Ctrl- the first time. I can hit Ctrl+ multiple times, but the entire screen will never show. Hitting Ctrl- multiple times will eventually show the entire screen. See the attachments for what I am referring to...
