Plugin check reports Adobe Flash Player 18.0.0.209 is vulnerable and the action is 'update now'

Having installed 18.0.0.232 twice and closed and opened firefox several times, the plugin check fails to detect the new version and still says 'vulnerable' - 'update now'.

thanks ...

Did you try to uninstall current Flash before install the last version? It often solves issues like yours.

What version is reported on the about:plugins page?

You can open this about page via the location/address bar.

Try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.

See Re-initializing the plugins database:

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Could you check whether Firefox is detecting both versions on your system. Here's how:

You can type or page about:plugins in the address bar and press Enter to load a very detailed page about your plugins.

Then you can use Find (Ctrl+f) to search in the page for npswf which is the beginning of the file name for the Flash plugin. See whether you have both the latest version and an earlier version listed.

If you see the earlier version, you should also see the path to it on disk. On 64-bit Windows 7, that's usually here:

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

I consider it reasonably safe to just delete the old file, but the official way, as indicated by Banban, is to use Adobe's uninstaller to clear out all Flash and then reinstall from scratch. This article has a link to the uninstaller: Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems.

When people get this after installing current version of Flash player, it has often been because they still had the previous version installed on system.

ok i have another problem this time with Adobe Acrobat.

plugin check says "Update Now" - Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape outdated 15.8.20082.15957

However when i follow the link, i download Adobe Reader Version 2015.008.20082 but it won't install and says i have already got Adobe Reader.

Is this because it is trying to install the same version? If so then this shouldn't be marked as Update Now in the plugin check?

i'm on a windows 7 machine

thanks ....

Hi Rich, to update Adobe Reader, I suggest opening that product (outside of Firefox), and using the Help menu to "Check for Updates".

Hi jscher2000

When i check for updates in Adobe Reader is says i have the latest version 2015.008.20082, so plugin check is incorrectly listing it as an outdated plugin and "Update Now"

thanks ....

Hi Rich, if you type or paste about:plugins in the address bar and press Enter, Firefox should display extensive details about your plugins.

If you use Find (Ctrl+f) to look for nppdf in the page, can you confirm your version number is: 2015.008.20082 ? If that matches, it seem the site did not read your plugin's version number correctly. If the version number in the page is the strange one reported by the plugin check site before, there may have been a glitch in Firefox reading the data out of the plugin.

(You might also check for any duplicate/older versions of nppdf plugins in the page before closing it.)

under about:plugins it says i have 15.8.20082.15957 which is the same as the version displayed on the plugin check page, so it shouldn't be prompting for an update?

This seems to be a glitch with the "current version" number used by the plugin check site. The site seems to be checking for the application version number (2015.008.20082) instead of the plugin version number. Hopefully they will fix that soon.

jasher2000, I posted a question regarding this problem, however lost the link. Why is the language not set up in English on this post? I hope this goes through.

My question is why the Adobe Reader shows "up-to-date", but when you check on this it shows a download from Adobe. If you check on that it starts and then states that I am using the current version, 2015.008.20082. As many problems as Adobe has, I think that "never activate", or "ask to activate" will be my choice until this is fixed.  :(

I found a link I wanted to check out that you had posted in that other message, but can't find the post.

Thank you for any advice you may have with this issue.

Hi Boudica, if you look in the address bar, there is a locale code which sets the language of the page. In my case:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1077955

If you follow a link from another site or person or from Google, that might include a different locale.

But to return to the problem: the site has evolved since the last time I analyzed its code. However, my advice to trust Adobe Reader's internal updater remains the same.

Hi, jscher2000! Thank you for the clarification about the "language" issue. I had never encountered this previously. I am bookmarking this because it has been so helpful!!

I agree about trusting Adobe Reader's internal updater. I have Secunia, and checked those stats, and it shows that my Adobe Reader is updated. (Wish I had thought about that sooner).

Thank you once again for your most kind assistance!!  :)

Note that the confusion about Adobe Reader version numbers was a bug and has been fixed.
