While looking at older emails, Thunderbird keeps jumping back to the top, newest email.
When I scroll down to look at older emails, the program, within a second or two, will jump back to the top of the email list. The only work around is to quickly click on any email in the new window before it jumps away (back to the top).

Do you use a mouse? Does it happen when you use the keyboard to navigate?
I have a wireless mouse and just before the battery dies, the cursor becomes erratic. - gild

Good thought, but it happens even with the keyboard arrows. In testing after your email, I noticed it is kind of intermittent.
