Online videos except Youtube not working
I suddenly have found that videos no longer work when I visit several websites. Although, I have found that youtube does work for videos that I have selected from there.
Example would be videos from websites like ESPN, CNN, FoxNews, CBS.com just a name a few that the videos are not working.
I get either a black screen where the video should play sometimes a spinning wheel or nothing at all the video does not show. ESPN is the one that shows the spinning wheel. Almost all the others just show a black screen with no video playing. This is obviously a Browser issue where something happened to kill the video playing ability. As it sits right now, I can not really browse the internet with Firefox which should never ever happen!!!!
I checked these websites against IE and IE plays them with no problem.
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64

The problem has been solved with the 6am Update to FF version 42.0.
What ever the problem was with 41.2 has been solved with the newest update to version 42.0.

YouTube is likely using the HTML5 media player and not the Shockwave Flash plugin in current releases. I don't know about the other websites.
If you use extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
I checked the areas you suggested and other than a recent Java environment plugin out of date which I corrected there is nothing there to prevent the videos from playing. In fact, there is nothing in conflict that has not been in place for at least 6 months or more and works find. I do have a popup blocker but not the one by Firefox. Firefox one has issues and does not block certain types of those.
I do not keep cookies thus it takes longer to load certain websites I visit frequently because of that choice. I also do not keep cashed items or history as a preset environment. When I close Browser, all those items are purged. I did check and they are purged even today.
I am using ESPN.go.com as the main tester right now to see if any suggested fix works. If I can not find a workable solution, I will have to five up FireFox for the second time. I gave it up after the version 6 disaster and came back in 2006 with version 12. Now we are what version 41 now!
I guess I will have to go Chrome or look around if a fix is not found by next Tuesday!
