more options

To make it short: I tried several solutions. One solution fixed ne problem, another occured.

I reset firefox. Youtube Videos only in 360 p. Set media.webm.enabled to False. Youtube Videos have all resolutions available. Soundcloud doesnt play. Set media.directshow.enabled to False. Soundcloud worked again. But now no more GIFs are played.

Tried to reinstall firefox, same problem, same history.

Could you load this page and see which are blue and which are red?

https://www.youtube.com/html5

If most of them are red, I'm assuming Youtube is now playing using Flash. To confirm, you can right-click the video in the player and check the context menu. If the last line mentions Flash, then it is the Flash version.

I don't know whether you use an N or KN edition of Windows, where Microsoft was not allowed to bundle certain media features, but in order to decode MPEG video and audio, Firefox needs those features. This is the installer in that case:

Download Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 KN with Service Pack 1 (KB968211) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Also, could you give a link to a GIF that isn't playing for you? GIFs should be handled without any special media features, but in some cases, sites are actually using MP4 videos instead of GIFs.

GIFs were all from 9gag.com

On this page: https://www.youtube.com/html5 Before the switchings in the about:config, the both in the middle were red (H.264 and MSE & H.264). After the settings in the config, the both on the right side were red, too.

I downloaded the Media Pack and set media.webm.enabled to True again. Now youtube has all resolutions available, soundcloud is working and the GIFs play as well. On https://www.youtube.com/html5 only MSE & WebM VP9 ist still red.

Thank you very much for the quick respond and the help!
