When i try to use T-bird to log in to my tiscali email account it will not connect, why

I tried to send an email through my Tiscali account. Thunderbird would no connect. I tried deleting the account ad tried to reopen. Thunderbird would not access the TalkTalk server when I tried for an automatic connection and even when I used the correct port settings . How do I fix this?
