Issue may partially not be FF problem, however FF has lead me down this rabbit hole, so... Pretty sure I've looked at all the existing troubleshooting, but don't believe any of them cover or mention *intermittent* issue, which is my issue. To make myself clear, my web page loading issue is INTERMITTENT. And on 2 different though similar PCs.

Error I'm getting is: Problem Loading Page. Server not found.

Following is behaviours/findings after a long day of troubleshooting; -issue still exists in safe mode or after refresh or after disabling anything FF I can think of including FF plugins. -webpages that do work will suddenly not work, just randomly. F5'ing said webpage eventually loads. This can sometimes take several minutes though. Webpages do not necessarily work again straight away just by closing & reopening FF. -Multiple tabs; I may have 1 tab work but another not work, at the SAME TIME (ie switching between them, F5'ing. 1 works, the other doesn't). -IE works at same time while firefox doesn't. -ping works, for any webpage. -phone cable unplugged; can't access router with both FF or IE, though ping works. Rebooting PC doesn't work. rebooting router does work, but can only access for about 30 seconds each time (either FF or IE). After that I get same problem. -phone cable unplugged. Once I boot up another PC on the same network/router, I can acess the router via FF/IE, on both PCs. This time for a long while (ie 20mins). -Turned 2nd PC off, suddenly can't access router again (but can ping). Can still access internet. -Turn 2nd PC back on. Internet working on both, FF still plays up. Still can't access router via FF/IE on both PCs. -Router: turn power off/on. Can now access router via FF/IE. -router logging is showing up some issues at same time SOME FF won't load pages (see below). This is despite IE still working at same time.

Have tried PC safe mode with networking. Have ruled out the firewall & anti-virus scan done. Have changed proxy settings. Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager isn't installed.

Windows 7 Pro, all upto date. GTX 750 latest driver. Router: Billion 7401 latest driver. Plenty of RAM/CPU/disk size. 2nd PC is similar.

This issue has only been happening in the last 6 months or so. And the problem is, I could go days or longer without issue then bam happens but when it does it's quite annoying.

I realise that my modem may have something to do with this, but it doesn't explain why IE works when FF won't.

cheers

Do you have NVidia’s network access manager or Forceware Network Manager software installed? Disable / remove it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/connectivity-crashing-firefox-43-update

As a test, disable your protection programs.

Does this happen on some, many websites?

As per my OP; Seems to happen on any website. Have tried disabled firewall. Don't have nvidia forceware. Access manager I'll have to double check, however as I stated above this is RANDOM & ongoing 6mths. How long FF v43 been around? EDIT: don't have access manager either.

btw, what's with forum spacing/formatting in my OP, gone?

Install an older version of Firefox {web link}

If there is no problem after, we have learned something.

Ok, so some oddities. Rolling back to v42 didn't work.

v20 - similar/same problem, however some more findings; 1st test: FF failed but IE worked. 2nd test: FF: "the connection has timed out" issue this time. IE: "This page can't be displayed" too. However, only google.com wouldn't load. Can still ping. EDIT: triggered again & again google won't load & for quite some time refuses to load /edit on either FF/IE. Once the issue was triggered (2nd time), google.com wouldn't load for quite some time in either FF or IE. Other websites still continue to load. Again, turning Firewall off didn't change anything.

One thing I did slightly different this time, was with IE I loaded up heaps of tabs like I have with FF (10 give or take). Then loaded different webpages on them all quickly.

Fired up 2nd PC & straight away google won't load (FF or IE) even though other webpages do. Reboot router, can now access google on both PCs.

So interestingly, this may be an ISP/Router issue or some other problem not related to my PC/network environment.

You have the router, or something in the computer.

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?

PC issue unlikely given 1 safe webpage won't load but another will. And on 2 PCs. As per my OP, had already tried safe mode with networking.

Router, yes problem maybe. Have done hard factory reset & problem still persists. Beginning to think router firmware issue/flaw.

As for safe websites: um well I don't believe that any I've visited are unsafe. What would constitute safe website, one that I can only access locally on my PC haha.

I've called the big guys to help you. Good luck.

Thanks for help. Seems like there's a bigger issue here that's clearly affecting FF (& to lessor extent IE) & while FF may not be the cause I can't 100% rule it out.

Since starting this saga I've tightened up controls/settings on router, but it doesn't seem to have made much difference.

EDIT: should really have users Router specs when reporting problems, may help eliminate false issues (ie router problems vs browser problem).

2nd Edit: Now I've got 2 different websites not loading, and it seems both are listed in my Routers Intrusion Detection log. 1 being google, the other a government website. These websites load again once I remove the IP from the IDS blacklist or I reboot router. And I can't be 100% certain, but whenever FF has "problem loading page - server not found " issue, there seems to be a corresponding item in the routers event log. I'm being watched haha

Just to add some more info as this is still a problem & I really don't want to stop using FF or revert to another browser;

When getting "problem loading page - server not found" on many websites, the following webpage still (partially) loads; https://www.epsonconnect.com/ When others won't at the SAME time. So it seems there's something different about this webpage that allows it to load.

EDIT: additionally, for pages that won't load (on the same tab) if I load that page^^ then click back button, the non-loading page will now load.
