One of the FF windows is cut off. It doesn't show all tabs or the right side arrow.

Been using FF for some time and it's updated (44.0) along with my extensions. I've recently noticed that when I have multiple windows with tabs, one or two of the windows will cut off some of the tabs to the right, cut off the right side arrow and also cut off the windows _, resize, and X icons so I can't even close the window or resize it. (See the attached image)

I'm using Session Manager, AdblockPlus, NoScript but I suspect these are NOT the cause as it only happens on some windows. I can't think of what else might affect the display properties.

I've rebuilt my profile recently due to corruption and now Places Maintenance shows that my database is fine. (No longer any bookmark issues).

The View -> Zoom control affects the website information but NOT the grey FF banner at the top. So I can reduce the info in all the tabs but this does NOT restore the blocked tabs I can't get to, the missing right arrow or the Windows resize or close options.

Most of the windows are unaffected and operate correctly even with many tabs on them. So it does not appear that the number of open tabs in a window is causing this.

Any ideas?

You may have a corrupt xulstore.json file.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the xulstore.json file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: 3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you for this suggestion. I've replaced it just in case. However, this problem doesn't occur immediately at FF startup. I need to have FF running for some time to see if the issue is fixed or not.

As it seems to be intermittent, doesn't occur immediately and doesn't occur on all windows, I only notice it when it prevents functionality.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

I'll try that. This problem only started recently and the only extensions recently added are: - Add to Search Bar - FavIconReloader (disabled, and used on demand) - Places Maintenance (disabled, and used on demand)

Am I right to assume that disabling an installed extension prevents it from interacting with FF and so it cannot be the cause of the problem?

If it's due to an update from an extension installed long ago (Sesssion Manager, AdBlockPlus, etc.), I would think that many would have signaled this.

I can try disabling hardware acceleration as an initial test. Then if needed test in safe mode and then add 1/2 the extensions back at a time until the process of elimination can identify the offending extension. But as above, with an intermittent problem, not occurring immediately at startup and not happening on all windows, if it is an extension (of which I've only installed a handful), this is going to be a lengthy process.

The issue has arisen again, so it is NOT resolved.

Hardware Acceleration is turned off, so that is the cause.

Creating a new xulstore.json file did not solve it either.

Could this really be an extension issue, since I only use a few and they are pretty widely used: - AdBlockPlus - Add to Search Bar - Ant Video Downloader - Dangerous Websites Blocker (Kaspersky) - Dictionnaire Fracais - DownThemAll - Flagfox - NoScript - Pocket - S3Google Translator - Session Manager

Does disabling them and reloading FF serve the same function as Safe Mode, and then enable 1/2 at a time to troubleshoot?

Anything else it might be?

What theme are you using? Try the default.

Thanks for that suggestion, but that's what I'm using.

So the only recent things are the restoration of the corrupted profile by creating a new places.sqlite file and the new extensions as indicated above:

- Add to Search Bar - FavIconReloader (disabled, and used on demand) - Places Maintenance (disabled, and used on demand)

I assume a disabled extension could not cause this. So that would leave Add to Search Bar of the update of a previously installed extension.

Unless, of course, someone has anything else to check.
