Hmm, are you running an app on your Android device that can accept connections from FTP clients? If not, I'm pretty sure your device will not accept connections on the normal FTP ports.

I usually transfer files between Windows and Android using a USB cable; this may require turning on USB debugging in Android.

Could I suggest consulting a forum specialized in Android questions? I usually use this one: http://forums.androidcentral.com/

I only have 2 USB ports and they are both used so I can't go that way.

What app are you using?

What error do you get when trying to connect FireFTP to your FTP server? Or if you are just starting to set up the connection, please see the attached screenshot.

I used yor screenshot to set it up and now I can connect but when I try to transfer a file like a simple jpg file nothing happens. Nothing get transferred just sits there and says will attempt in 10 seconds 40 attempts left.

Can you successfully browse files on the Android device from your PC and copy in the other direction?

If not, it may not be connecting properly.

If you can, maybe there is a bug in the app. You could try contacting the developer for support.

Hi, I meant does FireFTP list the existing files in the folder on your Android device where you are trying to send the JPEG? Usually the PC files appear on the left side, and the remote server files appear on the right side. If FireFTP lists the files, can you successfully copy one of them from the folder on the right to the folder on the left?

Once you save a screenshot to your system, either as a PNG or JPEG image file, there is a Browse... button below the "Post a Reply" box you can use to attach it.

I tried to copy them but it would not do anything.

I'm not sure what the problem is.

If you click Tools on the upper right side, there is a settings dialog. Try turning on the setting to show hidden files in case that is the problem. Although that doesn't seem very likely...

No dice, still nothing on the right side. Maybe it's something new Google is doing to try to block 3 party apps from using ftp apps.

Did you create the stuff folder or did the app create that? If you click sdcard (just above stuff), does FirefFTP show any other folders? Not sure any of those will work better, but at least you would expect to see some files in the download folder.

The stuff folder was already on there from another app. I clicked on the other folders and nothing. It just doesn't see my device.

You can prevent Firefox from trying to use IPv6, although, it shouldn't try that when given an IPv4 address. The steps are in one section of this article: Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can.

In the last screen shot, the folder names on the remote side are grayed, which I think means the connection was lost.

Maybe try one of the other FTP apps? ES File Explorer also has a similar feature if you use that app. From its menu > Network > Remote Manager (I haven't tried it because I'm on an open wi-fi at the moment) http://www.estrongs.com/eshelp/en/network.htm#_Toc406426524 (you need to use the settings button at the bottom to get the port number, etc.)

I tried some of these ideals and configured Firefox the way they said and it worked. the FTP sees the files on Android.
