Thunderbird repeatedly posts alerts for new mail that is already in the Inbox. It is using IMAP, not POP or POP3. This is on a MBP and occurs regardless of location (at work behind firewall and on home network) and type of network connection (wireless and wired produce the same result). I have restarted in Safe Mode and it produces the same result. I have disabled virus detection and the problem recurs.

This started happening about five days ago.
