I had just purchased an update for my Quicken software. The transaction went through just fine at the Quicken end. I got confirmation on the screen that indicated I should click on a link to download my upgrade but that I should first print the confirmation page. There was a link for me to do this. When I clicked on the link, firefox quit responding. As it looks to me now, I am out my money.

You are not out your money. Simply get in touch with the company through which you purchased the software and ask them to reactivate your download or ask for further instructions on how to activate your product.

Generally, software purchases give you a license to use the software, which means that you can download it as much as you want, but only one copy will function using the license key which you purchased. I can't guarantee that this is the case with the software that you have purchased, so you will need to consult with the company through which the product was purchased.

There is nothing that can be done on Mozilla's end because they do not offer any reimbursement for situations like this. Sorry.
