The last few update of Thunderbird has been more problematic than useful. Most all emails I receive are text only with outline boxes where pictures should be. I have already made corrections per other Mozilla Support articles - such as: Tools - Options - Privacy - Allow remote content in messages View - message body as - original HTML

How to I correct this?

Update: Perhaps the images being from different websites may need to have each one allowed.

select email click on 'More' select: 'allow remote content from all 5 origins listed above.'

Please report back on results.

To - Toad-Hall The "More" option only shows after I completely open an email, and it only shows the following options:

See the "MORE" dialog box - attached image

The 'allow remote content' - only shows up in "Tools" - "Options" - "Privacy" - under the MAIL CONTENT heading, on my TBird version 45.4

What "5 origins listed above" - are you talking about?

Zenos, posted that I could help out with the "Testing". How do I go about it?

What procedures, instructions and tools do I need to help work out with this problem?

Hello,

Please keep in mind that many contributors "drop the ball" here as soon as users start sounding less friendly or annoyed. Of course "you asked for a solution instead of guesses", but as we can’t see/test our "solutions" or some user input may be insufficient for us to rule things out, we sometimes need to call them "suggestions" or even "guesses" instead. And of course, a little patience as well as input and efforts are needed; bashing Mozilla is not going to help, apart from them no longer officially being responsible for TB. ;)

For the issue, hooking into Toad-Hall’s last reply:

- The one-off notification pop-up for a particular message does not reappear when you chose Allow "Show remote content in this message" once, not even after a restart. This seems to be a known bug - I’m afraid the only way to show it again is to delete the associated folder’s .msf file in your profile/Mail folder. The "5 origins listed above" refers to the Allow remote content from all [n] origins listed above menu item shown in that case as shown in the Remote content in messages article. Apart from that, you could of course select another message.

- Next, knowing the issue started with the last update, did you run TB in Safe Mode, or disable add-ons manually? You may not have any installed, but it’s the first step to take when troubleshooting, since add-ons and updates are known to cause issues so you have to rule that out.

- Then I wonder if Thunderbird has web access in the first place. If for instance your firewall or security software has been set to only allow ports 25, 110 and 587, you may not see any web content, so you should add the required ports (80, 443) there. Therefor:

- Has your firewall / security software been set up allright for TB?

- Do you see any web content in a tab when selecting Add-ons > Get add-ons (> More info), or the Help > What’s new link, or the Go > Mail Start Page?

- Do you happen to run Avast security software? If so, try switching it off or uninstalling it (link to known issue). If not, have a look at other software mentioned there and do the same or take any steps required for that software.

- What are the TB connection settings in Tools > Advanced > Network & Disk space > Settings? You might have set that to use a system proxy (default setting) that doesn’t work or isn’t available, or the check mark for Use this proxy server for all protocols can spoil things. Try No proxy or adjust the setting to what’s needed.

Of course you should be able to right-click an image that doesn’t load and select Copy Link Location (or view the source - ctrl-U) to know what type of content is rejected. Also, the Error Console could (but not should) give you an idea for some causes, especially for tabbed web content.

Now the odd thing is, all my lines above referring to connection settings may not be relevant here, since allowing remote content in any way appears to overrule them even though I think they should not. Therefor "my guess" is your security software is causing the issue.

I'm sorry I was frustrated the other day; due to several unplanned hindrances I'm facing - will you forgive me? I may not be able to try your suggestions right off; It'll probably be a week or two before I get back with you.

Thank you for responding.
