Why do messages keep reappearing in my inbox after they have been deleted or moved to other folders?

Am in the process of setting up Thunderbird (finally moving over from Eudora). Using IMAP, and I've installed BlueMail on my Android.

When I have Thunderbird open on my computer, I drag and drop emails from the Inbox to other folders. Or I will delete them by pressing the Delete key. Or I will mark them as Junk and drag them to the Junk Email folder.

However, these same emails keep reappearing in the Inbox, and I continue having to move or delete them.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

When you click junk, the email should just move itself to the junk folder.

Thanks Matt

No, when I click Junk (either the icon or with a j on the keyboard, it marks it as junk but sends it nowhere. I have been dragging them to the Junk folder manually.

When I delete a message or move it out of the Inbox, Thunderbird reloads it. I can delete it ten times and it keeps coming back.

Apparently, there is a problem or significant delay with the synching mechanism. It will even happen with messages that are hours or a couple of days old. Any ideas?

If this hotmail? There have been issues with their mail servers not moving supposedly deleted mails on pop account for a couple of years now.
