I recently had to backup my Thunderbird file and settings with Mozback. I deleted Thunderbird from Windows Control panel Programs. I then downloaded the latest Thunderbird and installed. Somehow, it found my file and settings and I didn't have to use the backup. I thought everything was fine until I sent an email. The password box came up and I entered my email account password and the email was sent. This happens every time I shutdown Thunderbird and restart it. What have I done?

Note that Mozbackup isn't developed anymore, and you're using it at your own risk. http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

The recommended way to backup your Thunderbird profile: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

I deleted Thunderbird from Windows Control panel Programs. I then downloaded the latest Thunderbird and installed.

Why did you re-install Thunderbird in the first place?

it found my file and settings and I didn't have to use the backup.

That's by design. Profile files are stored separately from the Thunderbird program files. The program files are static and do not change (except when you upgrade the Thunderbird application version). Because we store profile and program files separately, you can uninstall Thunderbird without losing your messages and settings, and if something goes wrong with a Thunderbird update your information will still be available. It also means that you don't have to reinstall Thunderbird in order to delete your information or troubleshoot a problem.

The password box came up and I entered my email account password and the email was sent.

That sounds about right. What is the problem? You can tell Thunderbird to remember the password though, so that you won't have to enter it every time it's needed.
