If I type 'foo' into the history search from ctrl+h, i get more results than if i type 'foo' into the address bar. How can I get history results in address bar?

I want the address bar to match on url and title, if i go to http://foo.com/foobarbaz then i want to type 'bar' into the address bar and have http://foo.com/foobarbaz come up as one of the options, every single time, no matter how many times i visit other websites that use the word 'bar' in their title or url

in short, i want comprehensive search of all visited pages when i type into the address bar

is this possible?

Couldn't figure out custom style rules, i ended up installing custom theme restorer addon and moving to an unofficial firefox branch to make this work, seems firefox will be disabling this functionality in the main branch

such a shame that firefox is doing so much to force people to browse a certain way and dropping support for established ways of doing things

thanks for pointing me in the right direction jscher2000

If you type foo bar are there are lot of other matches?

The address bar is, by default, limited to 10 results, including (if you use them) open tabs, bookmarks, history, and search suggestions. You can exclude the other suggestion types and increase the number of results, but you probably will find that the selection remains a bit different because the drop-down uses an algorithm called "frecency" to balance pages you visited recently and pages you visit frequently. I'm not aware of any command to make the address bar sort like history (by number of visits or by last visit date, rather than a combined computation).

If you want to experiment:

Selecting Result Types

See: Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox - "Changing your address bar settings" section

Showing More Results

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste URLB and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults preference and change the value from 10 to whatever you want to try (note: in Firefox 57, you will also need a custom style rule to allow scrolling to the additional results if you choose a large number)
