I want my newtab to look like the newtab in the old version of Firefox (see attached image or follow this link: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/35/Firefox_22_on_Windows_8.1.png/800px-Firefox_22_on_Windows_8.1.png).

How can I manage to do this?

The page the screenshot shows is actually about:home, the old default home page. In Firefox 57, both the Home Page and the New Tab page are replaced by the new Activity Stream. You can get back to that page by going to about:config clicking the warning to proceed, search for browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.aboutHome.enabled and double click it to set it to false. If you want your New Tab page to revert back to the old style, you can switch browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.aboutHome.enabled to false as well.

Thank you Moses,

I realized that the forwarded picture was the about:home tab just a while after posting. I was misled by the fact that both about:newtab and about:home are now replaced by the Activity Stream.

With the proposed solution I got back to the old about:home and this is a first step toward the solution of my question.

Nevertheless, buttons on the bottom are missing. In particular, I am looking for having the "restore previous session" button back.

How can I fix it?

Thanks in advance,

M.

Those buttons are gone AFAIK. This only brings back the design of the old home page. I'm pretty sure Mozilla didn't intend for users to revert back to the old pages.

You can find "Restore Previous Session" in the 3 bar menu. You can sorta replicate the look by dragging out some of the icons from your Customization palette (3 bar menu --> Customize onto your toolbar. See screenshot: http://prntscr.com/hblx10 It's missing the Sync button but that is hard-coded into the menu, same for restore previous session.

Thanks.

It is a pity and I can't understand this. It was helpfull and easy to use having such a button in the home page. M.
