Perhaps use Firefox ESR (52) for now? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

And turn off automatic updates if you don't want to get the broken version of Firefox again. Turning off automatic updates can be done in Tools->Options->Advanced->Update Or go to about:config and search for app.update.auto and turn it off.
