Cursor no longer appears in Google search box upon opening FF 57.0.1 (64-bit)
My home page is the Mozilla Firefox Start Page (with search box in middle of page). The cursor used to appear in the search box. Instead, it now appears in the address box.
I appreciate an earlier thread said this had been fixed in version 57. I have version 57.0.1 (64 bit). It does not appear to be fixed. When opening FF the focus remains on the address bar.
When I open FF it would be more convenient to have the focus immediately set to the search box. Can this be fixed?
Many thanks

What happens if you set the home page to google page what happens then?
Hello WestEnd,
Thank you for responding to my post.
As you suggested, I set the home page to google search, closed down FF, and when I re-opened it, the focus was back on the search box and not on the address box. I tested it a few times, and it is consistent.
So thank you very much for your suggestion. It solved the problem.
Cheers Mark
This is not a solution! I would like to use the Firefox start page and have the cursor in the search box in the middle of the page instead of the address bar. Selection google as the start page corrects this, however I do not want to use google as a start page. I want the focus to fall in the search box on the default page. (like it used to be). Thanks
Could you try the following setting change. These settings have long names that all seem similar, so I have underlined the most important part. It will be near the top of the list.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste newt and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.aboutHome.autoFocus
preference to switch the value from false to true
To test that, you can press Ctrl+n (on Mac, it's Command+n) to launch a new window.
Modified
Interesting the search box completely disappeared from the page after I did a reset? After doing a reset I was able to go back to the google home page which I had to abandon some time back because it loaded really slow.
So I fixed one thing and change something else in the process.
All is well at this point.
The only other thing I noticed is my menu items, bookmarks are way to fast. Is there a way to slow the speed down so I can move through the bookmarks easier?
Thanks

They close too fast, they scroll too fast, or ??? Since this is a solved thread about something else, you may want to start a new question about that. There's a link at the top of each forum page.
