Thunderbird seems to be incompatible with Kaspersky Total Security which I have to disable to send/receive emails.

My old PC died recently, and after installing Thunderbird on my new machine I also installed Kaspersky's Total Protection suite. Both operated without issues on my old machine, but now I can only send/receive emails with the Kaspersky protection temporarily disabled. Kaspersky can't offer a solution (I've already tried marking Thunderbird as a 'trusted application' in the Kaspersky software). Any suggestions, please? I'm puzzled as to why this is now a problem on my new PC when I never encountered it before.

Hi Matt. Thanks for this. I seem to have resolved the problem: the PC I acquired recently had AVG free antivirus already installed. This didn't seem to be causing any problems until I installed the Kaspersky suite, for which I already had an active subscription. This morning I uninstalled the AVG software, and Thunderbird now seems to work fine with Kaspersky enabled. I'm no expert, but it seems to have been some interaction between the two antivirus apps that caused the problem.

Happy New Year to you.

This is like asking how long is a piece of string.. the answer will always be depends.

I would suggest you disable the email scanning features of the anti virus and see if that helps. It is not all that useful anyway. Despite what the vendors tell us. They sell on fear, not informed consent.

It has always been considered a recipe for trouble to install two anti virus products. You are very lucky your problems were so mild. I have seen such interactions crash the entire machine requiring a wipe and reinstall of the operating system,
