Some people apparently think it's cute to have animated graphics in their email messages. I find it extremely obnoxious. Is there a way to block these animations in Thunderbird? I went all through the preferences and couldn't find anything about it. I have remote content blocked by default, and I did NOT allow it for this sender. Still, the annoying animations are doing their stupid thing. Thanks for the help.

If the image data is embedded into the message then it isn't "remote content".

If you select a message and use ctrl+u to see its source, you may be able to tell if it was embedded. If it truly is a remote content link then some more investigation is required to find out how it is getting in.

Hi Zenos, Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's probably embedded. Is there anyway in Thunderbird to disable embedded gifs? -Rob

Press F10 to show the main menu bar across the top of Thunderbird. Select the view menu. > message body as > simple HTML.

I do not have any emails with animated gifs to test with, but I think that may stop the animations.

Pressing F10 didn't do anything. I'm on a Mac, is that only for Windows?

On the Mac the menu was already displayed-- no need for F10. I went to View > Message Body As > and switched from Original HTML to Simple HTML and that got rid of the animations (and all graphics). Thanks!

My next suggestion was going to be plain text.

Yes, about 80% of Thunderbird users use windows so we assume.

It would be cool if Tbird could implement a feature allowing for full html but allow you to block the obnoxious gif's. I don't mind seeing photos but the dancing gifs are annoying.
