Hello, when I want to find an earlier email in my multiple thunderbird folders, I carry out a Thunderbird search, usually under the name of the sender and then click on the shown hits with the keyword I was looking for. Yet, as you can see in screen shot 1, this search tool only tells me under location the incoming subfolders (in, out) and not the folder, these subfolders are in. Clicking on the email itself does not help. The folders name, containing the in/out subfolder remains invisible. How can I change that and see the folders name during a Thunderbird search. Thank you for helping.

  • Select a folder and any email
  • Menu icon (3 horizontal lines) > Find > Search Messages

'Search Messages' window opens.

  • Search for messages in : select a mail account
  • select 'Search subfolders'
  • select 'match all of following'
  • select 'From' and 'contains' enter email address
  • select/highlight the email
  • at the bottom click on 'Open in folder' button

Now go back to the Thunderbird UI and you should see that email has been located and opened. You should see where it is in the left Folder Pane. Therefore you will also see folder tree hierarchy.
