Google.com is my homepage in Firefox 62.0.2 (64-bit) It takes forever to load. I can go load Chrome where Google is also my homepage, come back to Firefox and still be waiting for Google to load.

When I login to gmail, I type my password and wait and wait and wait and then I get sent back to the login page and have to type my password again.

I need to speed this up. I prefer Firefox over Chrome, but Chrome is faster to use.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox application. Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process. Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:

In Firefox 54 and below:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the Advanced panel and the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

In Firefox 55 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the General panel.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.
    Fx55Performance-disableHWA
  4. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  5. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

This actually didn't help. I hoped it would. I restarted my laptop and it took a full 30 seconds for Firefox to load. I'm still waiting for the gmail login page to load. It's been over 1 minute. I will still check for hardware acceleration upgrades. Maybe that will help. Thanks.

Hi, which is the better card, 1 or 2  ? Will need to go into Bios I would think. adapterDescription: Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 adapterDescription2: AMD Radeon R5 M335 driverDate: 2-28-2018 driverDate2: 12-6-2016

Please test in : SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Performance > Uncheck to view)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?

I ran dxdiag and there were no issues with either card. I ran Firefox in safemode earlier and nothing had changed. I've been using the laptop for awhile today so it's not as slow as when it first boots up. I'll have to try again in the morning and see if it is slow starting up. Thx

I'm not sure what helped, but as of this morning Firefox booted up to the Google.com homepage and gmail loaded first time. I don't know who to thank, but it appears to be fine this morning. Thanks.

I've found the solution to this problem here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1229621. You'll need to delete archive subfolder from datareporting folder (it's in the profile folder) and bang! Instant load!
