When I click on new tab, I want it to open with my 1st home page. Have tried "New Tab Homepage" - it works BUT very slowly. Other choices presented on the Find Add-ons page say they are only for newer systems beyond 52 ESR. Any suggestions?

Did you try this extension? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage-focus/ An older extension with Fx 3.0 thru 56.0 compatibility.

The Legacy version from which that extension was derived - New Tab Homepage - is gone now, so that is the closet compatible version that I am aware of. Get it quick as the Legacy extensions are slated for removal from the Add-ons website soon.

Thanks the-edmeister,

That works great with one little hitch, the new tab does not move to the front but I can live with that.
