thunderbird hangs while writing mail

Hi guys!

I am working with thunderbird for years and was trying to ignore, but now I dont want to anymore:

when I write a mail, during writing thunderbird freezes for about 3 seconds for no visible reason. And it occurs again and again in different timespans during writing the mail. The buffer behind reads the keytrokes and the letters will be written after the short freeze. But its very anoying....

Any ideas on that?

I am on update channel "release" und uptodate. Ah, Windows 8.1 is running.

AVG free, switching antivir off makes no difference. TB still freezing from time to time

Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode

Does the problem go away?
