Firefox started to crash on exit a month ago. I cleared the cache, tried safe mode and disabled hardware acceleration. Any help available?

Here are some reported crash IDs.

The nine reports show this "signature":

AsyncShutdownTimeout | Places Clients shutdown | sanitize.js: Sanitize on shutdown

"Sanitize on shutdown" refers to removing history or other data from when Firefox closes. Do you have that feature turned on? You would find it on the Options/Preferences page here:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Privacy & Security

On the right side, scroll down to the History section and set

  • Firefox will: Use custom settings for history

to reveal detailed settings. Do you have this box checked:

"Clear history when Firefox closes"

You could try clearing history (or whatever subcategories you like to clear) manually before shutting down to see whether that lets Firefox shut down normally. Alternately, you could try turning off this feature.

This article has more information on manual and automated clearing: Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox.

Thanks for trying to help.

"Clear history ..." was not enabled and clearing it does not fix the crash.

I guess this may be the cause :

Hmm, why is sanitizer running if you didn't tell Firefox to sanitize?? Well, hopefully they can speed it up to fix the time-out problem even if we can't answer that question.

Try to clear offline data manually in via "Clear Recent History" (Ctrl+Shift+Delete), use the everything setting.

As I already wrote this does not fix the problem.

66.0.3 still crashing.

Is there a way to disable this annoying crash reporter? I've already send about 30 of these same crash reports. Its getting old to get it pop up 20 seconds after exiting firefox.

I think you have to turn off data sharing. Open the Options page and type crash into the search box in the page. Then disable all the data sharing and see whether that does it. Any difference?

It was already disabled so this does not help.
