Firefox has again changed my startup page. . . . . .Why?

With this new update, I am now connected immediately to an Internet website, which is not how I previously had FireFox setup. I wish to have FireFox open up a page where I can select which Webpage that I regularly use or have the possibility to find a new webpage. I use to have Yahoo.com as one of the selections that I was able to make in the past, but for some reason FireFox has refused all efforts by me to get Yahoo.com included. How is it done? My past history is hidden so that I can't get to websites that I use quite often.

Are we talking about setting the homepage when the browser starts? Homepage can't change on daily basis unless you set the HomePage. And did you make sure it was a 64bit version install cause the update can be based on your system O/S 64bit or 32bit system as well. And if it went to 64bit then your old setting will be in the 32bit folder still but there is nothing in the 64bit location.

Hi warp4dennis, were you using the built-in Firefox home page before? To change your home page, please try the steps in this article:

How to set the home page.

Does that get you closer?

Once you have the built-in Firefox home page/new tab page, you can add a tile for Yahoo into the page. Try the steps in this article:

Could you explain this further? If you are missing your bookmarks toolbar or you want to add a history menu button or bookmarks menu button to your main toolbar, try the Customize feature:

I was using a previous version of Mozilla and then I got this notice that there was an update available. So I gave my permission for the latest update to be installed. And when it finally finished, I'm treated to the Mozilla advertisement page. And when I finally found a way to get rid of it, I'm then confronted with a new Mozilla web-page, which took me several minutes to figure out how I'm suppose to get to the Mozilla web page that I'm use to. And when I get that squared away, I find that the Audio portion of FoxNEWS is no longer there. I will get in contact with Fox and see if the lack of Audio is maybe from their end.

For that reason I would suggest that you try to keep any 'New Update' from changing the user interface if at all possible.

Could you be referring to the FF "feature" Pocket? With the last update, when opening a new window, I see something that say "Recommended by Pocket" with three suggestions.

I've looked online and it says to disable it, do about:config, extensions.pocket.enabled set to False and it should go away and go back to my blank screen but that didn't work. Hmmm....

But I noticed under options/home/"homepage and new windows", it has been reset to "Firefox home (default)". I didn't change that myself and it must have been reset with the update.

I reset the new windows option back to "blank page".

To the OP, do you see a reference to pocket? If so, try this. To FF developers, this did occur at the latest update without my intervention.

Hi bizbizbiz, to turn off sections of the Firefox Home / New Tab Page, use the Home panel of the Options/Preferences page:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Home

Then scroll down on the right side and uncheck sections/features you don't want on the page.

Thanks for the clarification.

After an update, you commonly get an extra tab. Close the tab to continue.

And when I finally found a way to get rid of it, I'm then confronted with a new Mozilla web-page, which took me several minutes to figure out how I'm suppose to get to the Mozilla web page that I'm use to.

So everything is good there now?

And when I get that squared away, I find that the Audio portion of FoxNEWS is no longer there. I will get in contact with Fox and see if the lack of Audio is maybe from their end.
Please check this article to see whether this is the explanation: Allow or block media autoplay in Firefox.
