Hi I am a guest helper trying to assist you.

The Thunderbird password needs to match the password expected by the email account you are using (example Gmail, Outlook, or your local internet provider email).

If you recently changed your password online, or Thunderbird's password was accidentally changed or deleted - it does not match any more, Thunderbird needs to know what the expected password is. When Thunderbird asks for the "new" password, enter the password that works if you access your email online.

Hi Coley Where exactly are you changing the password? As the article I referred you to says, Thunderbird only keeps a copy of the real password - that exists in your online email settings. Did you change the password in Thunderbird AND in your online email account at the same time? They have to match. For example if you use Gmail, when you change the password for your online Gmail account, you have to change Thunderbird to the same password at the same time. First please confirm that you can log in successfully using your email account's website, but fail if you are logging in with Thunderbird - using the same password in both places. If we can eliminate that reason then we can move on to other possible causes. Good luck, AgnesRM

Hi Agnes Things just got worse! After trying all different ways to get into my account I am totally confused. I tried using a master password thinking that may help but no, it doesn't, now even that will not work. Can I open new accounts using the old information with new passwords? Hope you can help Many thanks Coley

Coley Please tell us the last part of your email address from @ onward. Then we may be able to tell you where you can go to find out what the real password for your email is. Don't worry - changing passwords in Thunderbird will have no effect on your real email account. Agnes

Porters7 - are you still there? Has your problem been solved? Coley - are you also Porters7 or do you have a new question, perhaps a different problem?

Good Morning: I try to open my Thunderbird email account. I have not saved the passwords in the system registration form, then I do not remember if there was a "master" password. I enter the password for my "g.mail" account and it gives me an error. I can't activate Thunderbird. Please, can you tell me if there is any solution. Thank you.
