Sorry to hear about the crashes. If you are getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter form, your Firefox may have logged some data that would help track down the cause of the problem. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - asking for support" for steps to get those crash report IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones here.

Is the problem with:

• "3-bar" menu > Open File
• (menu bar) File > Open File

You could try editing or resetting this preference:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste dir and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Two options -- this will take effect in new windows (Ctrl+n), not necessarily in the current window, so be careful in testing:

(A) Double-click the browser.open.lastDir preference to display a dialog where you can enter the desired value -- for example, change Desktop to Documents -- then click OK

(B) Right-click the browser.open.lastDir preference and choose Reset

If the problem is with the Upload File dialog:

Firefox stores the last download folder on a site-by-site basis. It might also store the last upload folder on a site-by-site basis. All that is stored in a database, which is not easy to edit: there isn't a way to simply remove the entries that point to the desktop. You might need to delete the entire database. More on that if needed.

i cant find the browser.open.lastDir entery on the config site its noneexistend .

Oh, maybe it wasn't saved because of the crash? Could you try this:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste dir and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Select and copy the preference name:

browser.open.lastDir

(4) Right-click a blank area of the page, click New, then click String. In the box for the preference name, paste the preference name (right-click > Paste or Ctrl+v) and click OK

(5) In the next box, you can type in a specific directory, or try C:\ as a temporary placeholder and click OK

If you want to edit the folder later, just double-click the preference.

Does that work, or is it just as bad as the Desktop?

Hi jul285ian, actually, I can't sort that out just with my mind. Do you have a crash report ID number starting with bp-? That should link over to the crash stats server where the data is laid out in a more usable manner.
