I cannot edit default tag colours. Right click on a message title -> tag -> manage tags I can then double click or click on a tag and edit. Select a new colour and click on the ok and I get the message: 'A tag with that name already exits'

If I create a new tag, save then edit the colour, I get the same error.

I have updated to TB v68.0 I have the following extensions: Lightning gContactSync [I removed this and still have the same problem]

Hi,

thank you for the reply. Started in safe mode and went through the process as described, with the same result.

I also tried renaming 'To Do' to 'To Do NEW' [in the edit screen] but nothing happened when I clicked on 'ok' - no error but also no update in either text or colour.

I am on windows 10 - I tried running TB as windows admin user with the same results.

In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'open folder' button a new window opens showing contents of profile name folder.

Exit Thunderbird now.

Select 'prefs.js' folder to get focus, then right click on 'pref.js' file and select 'Properties'. Check 'Attributes' 'Read-Only' and 'Hidden' checkboxes must NOT be selected. Are either of these selected ? Uncheck if they are selected. Click on 'Apply' click on 'OK'

Delete the following:

  • session.json
  • xulstore.json

Start Thunderbird.

prefs.js have neither option selected. Deleted both session.json and xulstore.json

Alas, I still have the same error message when trying to change a tag colour

Editing tag colors is also broken in TB 69b4, but works in TB 60.8. As a workaround, you can change the colors in Tools/Options/Advanced/General/Config. editor by right-clicking, e.g., the preference mailnews.tags.$label1.color (Important tag), Modify, and entering a hex code, close Options. Same for custom tags, e.g. mailnews.tags.newtag.color for the newtag tag.

Hi sfhowes,

Colours edited - I can now easily read the tagged in the dark theme  :)

fantastic, thank you for your help.

I have filed a bug on the strength of being able to duplicate this on Thunderbird 68,

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1578148

Feel free to add any relevant information, or dup it if there is an existing bug I could not find.

Fixed in 68.1 Not sure exactly when we will see that released, but fairly soon I would think.
