Up until recently I got the "Showing results for" and "Search instead for" options with a google search when it was warranted, but not now.

It works in Chrome, but not Firefox. Firefox search is set to show suggestions from the address bar. _________________________________________ Windows 10 pro, Firefox 81

I get that if Google is fixing my spelling. For example:

Search: eggplant peeper dip

Above the results, Google says:

Showing results for eggplant pepper dip Search instead for eggplant peeper dip

Yours isn't doing that any more?

Sometimes Google likes to experiment on users with alternate layouts (for example, showing desktop users a mobile layout). It's never clear why or how long these changes will last, but if you don't need to be logged in to your account when searching, a possible way to escape is:

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. Make sure to only clear the web cache and not ALL site data.

(2) Remove your Google cookies (save any pending work first)

While viewing a results page, click the lock icon at the left end of the address bar. After a moment, a "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button should appear at the bottom of the drop-down site information panel. Go ahead and click that.

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try a new search through the address bar. Does that help?

Hi jscher2000,

After a trial and error routine with my addons, it turns out my "I dont care about cookies" addon was responsible. I reported it to the author.

But thanks for that mention about that "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button. I've been there many times but never noticed it.
