Address bar showing wrong URL on different open tabs

more options

My Firefox address bar shows worng URL: either it belongs to another open tabs or it just doesn't change while browsing. I add an example in picture: as I opened the support homepage you can see in the bar it still shows my search on Google "Firefox bug address bar". It's messed up, especially if one trues to refresh a page. Am I the only one getting this?

I think what you are looking at is the search box. Note the icon on the right.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

One other thought:

Normally, after the page has loaded, the bar has icons at the left end like a shield and padlock. Your bar looks like it is in the midst of setting up for navigation to a new page. Can you click in the bar and press the Esc key to restore it to showing the currently loaded page information?

Note: you might need to press the Esc key twice to cancel editing.

If that works, it still would explain why it looks that way at the moment. ??
