Emails get marked as "Read" after iPhone 11 gets them
Good Morning, After my iPhone gets emails, they show up as read on Thunderbird on my computer even if I have not opened them on either the phone or computer. When I send myself test emails, Thunderbird gets them and they are in bold meaning "Unread", all appears well. Then I check emails on my iPhone 11, it gets the email(s) (They remains as "Unread" on the phone because I didn't open them) and then in Thunderbird on the computer they automatically goes to "unbold" meaning they have been read - sometimes right before my eyes.
Sometimes I have to close Thunderbird and open it again and it does the same thing.
Last night my phone updated itself and I'm 99.9% positive that everything was ok before that. I shut off my phone and restarted it and the same thing happens.
In Thunderbird I unclicked "Automatically mark messages as read" under "Options" and then it doesn't mark them as read even after I have read them.
My old computer used Tbird as the mail client and all worked well.
My new computer has Windows 10. My email server is through Explornet. My phone now has iOS 14.4 (Not sure what it had before last night) Sorry for the long winded explanation but I wanted to submit as much information as I could. Any help would much appreciated. Thank you

I suspect this is due to either the specific mail provider (Xplornet) or the mail app on the phone. Many users, including myself, have IMAP accounts on multiple devices, including phones, and the read/unread status works properly: messages are not marked as read on all devices unless they are read on one device. Can you confirm that the account is IMAP on all devices? If it worked on your old computer, I doubt that TB/W10 on the new computer is the cause. If you can, perhaps test with a different mail provider such as gmail, outlook.com, or a different mail app on the phone.
Thanks for the reply! The new computer is IMAP. The old one is POP. On the xplornet account information on my phone it shows "POP ACCOUNT INFORMATION" Should I change them to IMAP and still have everything work? I guess I could try it and if not change it back.
A new development this morning. All the old emails on the new computer have disappeared. When I sent myself an email it arrived on the new computer displayed in bold as unread. when I checked emails on my phone, the phone received it and after a few short seconds it disappeared from the computer.
I tried my old computer and everything still works fine, emails arrive, they're shown as unread and it keeps them without them disappearing. This makes me think that it's a TB issue (and I could very easily be wrong on that). Would uninstalling and re-installing TB make a difference? Would deleting the account and then manually setting it up using POP possibly work? Thanks for any help!
If the account is POP on the phone with the setting to delete from the server after download, then those messages will disappear from an IMAP setup as soon as the device syncs with the mail server.
If you are just accessing the account from the new computer and the phone, it's better to have it IMAP on all devices. For the phone, you will probably have to remove the account and add it again as IMAP, while if you need to change from POP to IMAP on the old computer, instructions are here:
