I am using Thunderbird 78.9.0 on a Mac. I need to access the Advanced Panel to stop the program from generating a new tab each time an email is opened. But I cannot find where the Advanced Panel is or how to reach it. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

That is set in the Reading & Display section of Preferences/General. Messages open in the Message Pane with a single click (F8 to toggle the pane).
