I have some Thunderbird mail folders that were created using what I believe is version 1.5.0.8 of Thunderbird (Windows/20061025), and I would like those migrated to a new Thunderbird installation (version 78.11.0) that I have on a Windows 10 PC.

I do not want the imported mail folders, to go into the default email folder. I need them to be in their own folders.

Any idea how to do this?

The old infrastructure is:

abook.mab blocklist.xml cert8.db compatibility.ini compreg.dat cookies.txt downloads.rdf extensions.cache extensions.ini extensions.rdf history.mab impab-1.mab key3.db localstore.rdf mailviews.dat mimeTypes.rdf panacea.dat prefs.js secmod.db signons.txt storage.sdb training.dat unclassifier2.sqlite virtualFolders.dat

There are also three subfolders:

Subfolder 1: extensions, and has in it multiple extensions folders

Subfolder 2: Mail and it has in it the following subfolders: - Local Folders - locahost - localhost-1 - localhost-2

Subfolder 3: WebmailData

Any ideas?

go to about:profiles from the troubleshooting information (Help menu) Create a new profile it matter not what it is then close Thunderbird. delete any files that are in the "new" profile and replace them with the stuff you have including all sub directories/folders.

Restart Thunderbird and use the new profile (about profiles will help with navigation) you data should "just load". There have been some changes over the years, and certainly your addons will be quite unlikely to work. But about everything else should just upgrade as the program loads the profile.
