Thunderbird 91 won't save passwords

Win7 32bit.

I had been using Tbird 26 for ages, and it was working very well.

Recently, one of my accounts changed to using Oauth2 requiring a Tbird update, so I went straight to 91.0.1.

I downloaded it, and ran the install replacing the old version without first erasing the old version.

All my previous email accounts and the local copies of the emails seem to be loaded OK, but no passwords for any accounts were brought forward. (This seems to be a common problem listed in many other posts, but I am not focusing on that now.)

When Tbird wants to access an account, it asks to enter the password and gives an option to use password manager to remember the password (this seems just like the old version.)

When I enter the password, it moves on to the next account and again asks for the password as expected.

However, a few minutes later it asks for all the passwords again.

Upon looking in settings->security->saved passwords, a list called "saved logins" not "saved passwords" pops up, and the list is totally empty. The 3 buttons at the bottom are greyed out.

What can I do to fix this? I would really prefer not to delete all Tbird and reenter all my account information for all my email accounts.

Thanks, Mark.

What was the version previous to 91? OAuth2 has been supported since at least version 68. To remove all password information, close TB and delete key4.db, logins.json and cert9.db. Make sure there is no password manager in a security app that is intercepting TB passwords, and check that cookies are accepted in TB Preferences/Privacy & Security, for OAuth2 to work. Then restart TB and enter the account password in the OAuth window when prompted. A token will be saved in Saved Passwords.

sfhowes.

FYI, the previous version was 26.0.

I got it working, I tried your suggestions to no avail, the only solution was to use windows remove program to remove T-bird, then delete the folder left behind (I guess because I installed an extension(folder rearrange) then remove the appdata folders for T-bird, then reinstall.

At any rate, I seem to have it working now and am in the process of adding all my numerous email accounts (14) (you know you re a nerd when you have more then 3 email accounts.), Thanks for the help.

Had the same issue, tried all the same suggestions. Tried un-installing and deleting just the TB folder. No dice. Uninstall+delete TB+delete TB APPDATA + reinstall = success. Thanks for solving it Cool Jav. But damn, that could have been smoother.

PS don't recall my previous edition, but somewhere north of 26 at least.

I just updated for Thunderbird 91 64-bit from a much older version. Now I can't save passwords. I've tried every workaround I can find in this forum, and elsewhere. Deleted keyX files, certX files, signons.sqlite, etc. No go.

If I can't solve this, I'll have to abandon a huge archive of saved messages. It is not encouraging to find a number of threads on this topic marked as "archived" yet including no definitive solution...
