Hi !

I want to restart my company with a new name, and thus with new email addresses. If I archive the emails from my old addresses/accounts, would I still have access to them when I delete these accounts? If this would not be possible, what solutions exist to archive and access emails from accounts which are not active any more ?

Could it be an easy solution to install a second Thunderbird which would then be used for the new accounts? The old one could sleep peacefully and would be accessed only if there was a need for searching some old emails. Storage space is no issue...

Thanks in advance for any advice Best regards Michael

Make sure that you have archived all messages from inbox and sent folders to Archives local folder , then delete all your accounts and create the new ones. The old emails remain in the Archives local folder. For being most on secure side export all your emails in a folder created by you on hard disk, in this way you will have also a backup of all your emails. If you use TB 78.x.x. the import export tools ng add on will help you the most. Export them as mbox or eml format.

Note: import export tools add is compatible with TB version 78.x.x. not with TB 91.x.x.

You can continue creating the new accounts and deleting your old accounts one by one. You'll see that the local folder Archives will remain untouched. So the access to old emails remains the same as before.

If your accounts are IMAP make sure to move all the emails from IMAP inbox or sent folders to local Archives folder.
