Mozilla Thunderbird and NVDA screen reader - whenever he brings up an e-mail message in the inbox, or presses the Tab key. He cannot use a mouse...only the computer's keyboard.

Dear Mozilla;

I hate to keep bothering you, but I think we have found a solution to my blind friend's problem with his NVDA screen reader saying Property Page in Mozilla Thunderbird (version 68.x) whenever he brings up an e-mail message in the inbox, or presses the Tab key. He cannot use a mouse...only the computer's keyboard.

Looks like my blind friend was right when he told me that the Property Page thing is not NVDA's problem. I happened to remember a different free e-mail program I tried out for a while some time ago and I downloaded it and installed it onto a Windows 8 Laptop computer that I was given, and then configured it for my own E-mail account. I then downloaded and installed NVDA (version 2021.2) onto the same laptop, and then played around with the new free e-mail program for about 30 minutes.

No matter what I did in the new free e-mail program, NVDA never did say the words Property Page. So it looks like to me now that the problem lies somewhere with Mozilla Thunderbird and not the NVDA screen reader. On my blind friend's computer, the Property Page thing on Mozilla Thunderbird just started up 2-3 months ago. Before that, NVDA never said it.

I don't understand why NVDA says Property Page in Thunderbird, since I have never seen those words in any of the e-mails my blind friend has gotten.

Anyway I'll try not to bother you again. Sincerely, Roy Burrus Western N.C.

so https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/11492 doesn't answer your problem? (cited from your prior posting at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1353154)

FWIW it's normally a good idea to continue looking for solutions using your first postings. Posting new topics for the same problems loses continuity with the people who where previously trying to help you.

Additional information from a developer....

"Property Page => Preferences tab? If the screen reader doesn't recognize tabs or other keyboard shortcut, it might be because it entered "Form mode", or at least that was the problem with the JAWS screen reader which it wasn't working nicely with our new tabs (prefs, account setup, etc). They're talking about v68, so not much luck in figuring things out"

Is there any way I can delete all of the posts I have put on here? Or maybe someone else can delete them? I didn't realize I had put so many on here. My blind friend says that the problem I posted about has nothing to do with NVDA, and he won't listen to me if I try to tell him that it might be going into Form mode. So I guess we'll have to go back to square one and try to find an e-mail program other than Thunderbird that does not say Property Page anywhere. Apologies. Will try not to bother you again.
