The fixed bottom status bar was removed in Firefox 4, replaced by an optional bottom Add-ons bar that was removed in some later version (maybe Firefox 29). Currently, status messages like link URLs or loading status appear as floating messages above the lower left or lower right of the page. Are those messages not displaying on your Firefox, or was there some other information you were looking for?
You can try Firefox from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution to see if it behaves differently.
Some sites it doesn't show anything on the bottom left or right.

For links when you hover your mouse over them? I wonder whether there is a way sites hide that information.
I have been noticing that a lot of sites are now using Python to create web sites. I'm not sure if there is a difference with using HTML or Python for functions or other means.
If there is not an A tag with href attribute but possibly an onclick handler is used then you won't see the overlink status message.
I really believe that most sites are created by those that doesn't fully understand how to create a website. They just want to get one up without doing a lot of work in developing a decent website.
