Recently my Firefox crashes sometimes when downloading a file for example from Yahoo mail. This is not happening always, but sometimes when downloading a file. I have the latest version of Firefox, Windows 10. I changed password, deleted cookies, did full virus scan, but the problem still persists. Is this an issue of the new version of Firefox and will be fixed with the new update of Firefox ? This is happening only with Firefox and not with other browsers.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

There are no submitted crash reports. There are only some very old unsubmitted crash reports. Also, I have done Refresh Firefox, but this didn't fix the issue.

Hello Saburo, I submitted an older crash which might be the same as the recent. bp-b0c509de-5bf4-4c8d-aa16-13a750220502 Can you see something ?

It does not look like this crash report has to do with download problems.

The crashing during downloading, Is this with all websites/pages, some, a few?

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a download manager.

This download manager works separately from the browser. The browser tells it what to download, and off it goes.

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org It is a powerful modern download accelerator and organizer for Windows and Mac.

This problem happens only sometimes when downloading files from Yahoo mail, not with other websites. So, it is something between Yahoo and Firefox. It happened after the recent update of Firefox, when Firefox changed the way of downloading. I suppose this is a problem by Firefox and should be fixed by them. I reinstalled Firefox (Refresh), but the problem still persists. Also, I checked Firefox without Add-ons, etc (Safe Mode) but didn't resolve the issue.

Hmmm. I don't know if this will help, but give it a try: Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox {web link}

Remove a single website from your history {web link}

Open the History Manager <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> H. In the search bar, enter the name of the site. Right-click on one of the listings and select Forget About This Site. This should remove all information, including any site settings And Passwords.

I deleted the total history of the specific website I have the problem (Yahoo) with no result.

Have you checked out the download managers I talked about?

Use these links to create a new profile. Use this new profile as is. Is the problem still there?

I deleted all the history of the website (yahoo) which has the problem. So, for what reason to create a new Profile in Firefox ? Anyway, did anybody else using Yahoo mail (or Yahoo business mail) and Firefox have the same problem ?

Sometimes a problem is caused by something in the profile. Add-on, setting . . . . If there is no problem using a new profile, then we know.

Anyway, did anybody else using Yahoo mail (or Yahoo business mail) and Firefox have the same problem ?

Hard to say. I have not seen any. But I don't check every post.

The first thing I did is to reinstall Firefox (Refresh), so I have already a new profile. The old data by Firefox (old profile) were stored in my device and I have deleted them. I have the feeling that the problem may persists because of the antivirus system of Yahoo. So, when downloading a file in my computer this is scanned by yahoo antivirus. If in some cases something goes wrong with this, it could cause a crash. With Chrome there is no problem, but Firefox might be more weak if an antivirus scan in the downloads would be much strong.

I suggest you contact their support and ask about this. if they feel that Firefox is the cause, you may need to create a bug report.

The issue still persists. Sometimes, usually on the start of Firefox, when downloading a file from Yahoo mail, then Yahoo Tab closes unexpectedly (this is really not a crash, but the Tab of Yahoo mail closes). I think this is a bug between Yahoo and Firefox and should be resolved by them.

28 July 2022: Having the exact same issue. We can download and open in Gmail etc without issue. Happening across all our computers. Very frustrating, as the Yahoo email is our main business account. Have updated Firefox to latest version, cleared caches, disabled add-ons (only a couple used anyway), disabled firewalls, nothing helps at all. Agree with eladopoulos that it's a bug between Yahoo and Firefox. Have been using both for many years and this has only started happening in the last month or so. Will have to move to Chrome if those two can't get their act together and fix it.

I see that there are a number of others also experiencing the same issue, so we're not alone.

I am glad to hear that there are many other users having the same issue like me. Several time ago I contacted Yahoo technical support and they answered that this should be an issue by Firefox, as all other browsers (Chrome, etc.) are working perfectly. So, I would like to ask Yahoo to cooperate with Firefox to fix this bug between them.

Hi! I don´t if you have experienced any improvements on this issue, but I have had the same problem for many months now. Very frustrating. I am resisting the temptation to move permanently to Google Chrome, but I haven't found a solution yet online.

more options

No there are still no improvements on this issue. Firefox and Yahoo should find a solution on this.
