I've just used PCmover to transfer everything from my old computer to my new HP Envy, (Windows 11, Kaspersky Internet Security). Tbird is now on the new PC, but I can't log in. I used my password manager to use the same password as before, and of course I've used the same email address, but I keep getting the error message, "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password". I can still get into my Tbird account on the old PC. I've checked the incoming server settings on the new PC, and they are correct.

Can you help?

Cheers, Colin.

You never told us your email account, e.g. gmail, aol. Some, such as gmail, require a different password for each pc.

Hi David, Thanks for your reply. I use one.com. Should I contact them? Cheers, Colin.

Are you using full email id as user name? a screenshot of incoming server page may help.

Hi David,

Can't do that now, sorry. I'll be back tomorrow once I've worked out how to do a screenshot on my new PC! Yes, using my email address as id, as usual. Cheers, Colin.

Hi David,

Here's the login page, in two parts.

Is there any way I can simply reset the password?

Cheers Colin.

more options

Yes, - settings>Privacy&security - click 'saved passwords' and then 'show passwords' - highlight BOTH rows of your account (incoming and outgoing servers) - delete the two rows. - now when you click to receive messages, you will be prompted for password.

Thanks David, that did the trick. All seems to be well with the emails.

However, my calendar and address book are now both blank on the new computer, but still there on the old one. Any idea how I could simply update them from old to new?

Cheers, Colin.

I've seen that problem before and I don't know the cause. However, try this: tools>import>import from a file and from there click the address book option and select the abook.sqlite from old computer. I don't use calendar, so I can't speak to that.

Curiously, the new TBird no longer has the usual list along the top, of File, Edit, View... Tools, Help. So right now I can't access tools. Do you know where it's gone? If I get it, do I do as you instructed on the new computer?

I'm not sure I understand how I can select abook.sqlite from the old computer when I'm on the new.

Also, but less important, my Junk, Drafts, and Sent folders used to sit directly below Inbox, but now they're listed further down, alphabetically. If you can help here, please let me know? Otherwise I'll just have to get used to it.

I'll post a separate question on the Calendar.

Cheers, Colin.

Don't know what happened there! It should have read "I'm not sure I understand how I can select abook.sqlite from the old computer when I'm on the new one.

For menu bar... - press Alt key and menu bar will appear - now, click view>toolbars and tick menu bar and then it will stay

For addressbook, I was assuming the old one was accessible on USB stick.

For folders, seeing a screenshot would help.

OK got the menu bar, thanks. I've ordered a USB stick from Amazon, so will try as you suggest when it arrives.
