What is your anti-virus software?

I am not using an antivirus and nothing has changed on my computer.

Also, for two days over the weekend, Thunderbird worked worked perfectly, and here it is Monday morning, and it is doing the exact same thing. I just do not understand and I believe this is on Thunderbird's end.

However any help would be greatly appreciated.

And what do you think how often you do get updates of your Defender virus signatures? Presumably you did receive a number of messages, and also sent some. So a lot is actually changing all the time.

Try to start Windows 10 in safe mode with networking enabled.

Does the problem go away?

Windows safe mode disables anti-virus software. This is a troubleshooting step, not a solution.

Hello - Okay I started it up in safe mode and yes, Thunderbird did not freeze while it was in safe mode.

However the moment I went back to regular mode it froze immediately.

So anti-virus software is most likely the culprit.

Update - Okay I found the profile folder.... how do I create an exception to the anitvirus?

Windows Settings - Privacy & Security - Virus & threats - Virus and threat protection settings - Manage settings - Exclusions - Add or remove exclusions

When I get to this point, I do not know what to do. If I click process it wants me to enter a process name .... or am I supposed to click a file or folder?

I did not know how to create the exception but I turned windows defender off so that I could at least use thunderbird and work. - it works almost immediately when I turn Windows Defender off, so that is definitely the issue. I just need to take it in or figure out how to make an exception so I can turn it on as I am at a loss for how to do that once I get to the screenshots I sent.

Not really a great solution.

Just create a new exclusion for the Thunderbird profile folder. As per your above post you already found the profile folder. Use the entire path for the exclusion.

I turned it back on and created the Exception. New to this so that really helped. thank you!
