I installed Mint 22 on a test machine and it has Firefox 134.0.2 as part of the initial installation.

My question isn't about what version is available on Mint but if there are any issues with taking the profile from the 113.0.2 version and copying to the new machine which is running 134.0.2. Will 134 read the profile w/o a problem?

Honestly, this is hard to know. As long as you have a clean backup copy, you might need to just try it.

Firefox makes small incremental file format changes from version to version, and retains code for upconversion for an unknown non-infinite amount of time.

I think it is safe to assume that the base ESR version still has the conversion code for the previous base ESR version. For example, Firefox 128.x could seamlessly convert Firefox 115.x - 127.x files (earlier files unknown); Firefox 115.x could seamlessly convert Firefox 102.x - 114.x files (earlier files unknown); and so forth.

You can run the Firefox 135.0 on the Linux distro Mint just fine as the Firefox 129.0.1 you mention is a random old Release from August 13, 2024.

I've got an older machine to test on but wanted to figure out the process beforehand.

And I've got a Windows 7 machine running 115ESR so if the direct move fails I can try upgrading the profile to 115 and from there to 134.0.2. If that fails try 113.0.2 -> 115 -> 127 -> 134.

Thank you. I wasn't familiar with sync. But I've move profiles from machine to machine for years.

If I read it correctly, I'd need three accounts as I have 3 profiles: 1 fully locked down, 1 slightly locked down and 1 out-of-the-box. Many sites work with the fully locked down, almost all the rest with the slightly locked down profile. The out-of-the-box profile is for the rest.

And I am not the only user with this kind of set up. Copying seems easier than managing multiple accounts per user. But I'll add sync to my list to check out later. Thank you for the suggestion.

Moving from an older Ubuntu 18.04 machine where Firefox is limited to version 113 to a newer machine running Mint 22 where the current version is 134.

Btw you can likely run the current Firefox versions like 135.0 Release or 128.7.9esr on that old Ubuntu 18.04 system by using the Linux tarball version of Firefox from Mozilla. You just need to extract it as a folder and run the firefox script or firefox-bin. There is a Firefox icon in the firefox/browser/chrome/icons/default/ to use for your lancher shortcut. Just make sure the Firefox folder has read/write permissions for the user to get internal Firefox updates from Mozilla. An eaay way is to have Firefox folder in /Home
