It sounds like maybe there is an enterprise policy configured on your computer.
You can confirm this by typing about:policies
into the Firefox address bar. This page will list all active policies on your computer. If your updates are being disabled, you will probably see some policies related to updating Firefox (probably DisableAppUpdate
).
If you didn't activate those, it's important to figure out why the policy was added. It could be a sign of malicious software running on your computer.
Check your Firefox installation folder (usually located in C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox or C:/Program Files (x86)/Mozilla Firefox) for a folder called distribution
. In there, you will probably find a file called policies.json
.
If that file exists, but you didn't add it there yourself, move it to the desktop. After you've done that, restart Firefox and try doing an update.
If that fixes the problem, it's highly recommended that you scan your computer for malicious programs. You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller (for more info, see this alternate TDSSKiller download page)
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Hope this helps.
