i am unable to connect to the windows update center. i use fire fox and avast antivirsus. I think i need to use internet exployer to do this but it isn't working
i can't use the windows update program. i think i have to use internet exployer to do this. i tried but it doesn't work.. can firefox connect to the windows update site

You can do Windows updates at this URL: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com As this website says, to use it, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later. The reason for that is the interaction of the website with the Windows Operating System in such a way that only Internet Explorer supports. The technology used launches an executable with system-wide permissions, which checks for the current number of installed updates & checks whether there are some new ones available. The possible solutions include to open this website in IE, or to use the "IE View" addon to display it in Firefox using MSIE engine.

Firefox does not support ActiveX technology for multiple reasons.
- ActiveX is only available on Windows operating systems, and as a result webpages that require it will not work on Linux or Mac.
- ActiveX integration with the Windows operating system has made it a target for malicious software.
Firefox uses plugins to view and use multimedia content embedded in web pages, and extensions to add new functions.
Internet Explorer comes with the Windows OS family by default, and to update the system, please just do Start > Windows update, which opens IE regardless which browser is the default one.
