First my Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar started displaying empty. If I look for these bookmarks via the menu selection 'Bookmarks/Bookmarks Toolbar' they're all here OK. If I attempt to customize the empty Bookmarks Toolbar, I can (drag & drop) any of the offered customizations OK; I can then turn this scantily clad Bookmarks Toolbar on & off OK. I started disabling/enabling suspect extensions (Diigo, Delicious, Linkwad, LinkedIn). None of these corrected my empty Bookmarks Toolbar, but many of my other toolbars similarly started displaying empty. Now, in addition to my Bookmarks Toolbar displaying empty, this empty state is exhibited by the Delicious, LinkedIn, & Paypal toolbars. I'm able to live with this inconvenience because all of the data store is still there, accessible via the file menu access. I'm afraid to toggle on/off either the navigation toolbar or the menu bar lest I lose total control over the gui here. This appears to be a big problem with my 3.6.12. Any ideas?

You can check http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

This can also be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Hi Cor-el: Thanks for your helpful suggestions. When I booted into the safe mode, everything displayed fine... so this suggested I had to isolate which of my 50 or so extensions was causing the problem. At first it appeared to be the "All In One Sidebar" extension: turning this on & off brought back the Bookmarks Toolbar, but not the Delicious or other toolbars. Eventually I discovered the offending extension: Shop Shield 2.0.4997: turning this baby on & off caused all of my various toolbar display problems to appear/disappear. So in the process of things here, what do I do with this information now? Should I contact the Shop Shield people directly and deal with them one-on-one with this issue... or is there a different Mozilla community type way to bring this to others/everyones attention? Thanks again for your help with this! Bill B.

Contact the developer of that extension to make them aware of your problems with their extension.
