This is the signature:

hang | Mozilla::plugins::PPluginInstanceParent::CallPaint(mozilla::plugins::NPRemoteEvent const&, short*)

Or this one: hang | KiFastSystemCallRet

Firefox is often "Not responding" - it seems to be worse when I have websites open with moving adverts on them, such as a news website or Hotmail and its adverts. Sometimes it crashes.

It hangs all the time and all over the place, switching tabs, writing an email, clicking on a link... It's a nightmare.

If I close the websites with the Flash adverts, Firefox drops to using only 1 or 2% CPU and works fine again.

Please can you help? Thanks,

Zoe.

Hi,

If it's any help, since posting my problem, I have found out that my Hotmail account had been hijacked by a spammers. The spamming software was probably the cause of all the excessive CPU usage as it worked through my 500+ contacts to create crap emails to send them and spread itself. I had to change my password and switched to https. I only did this after seeing the massive number of messages sent out which generated a few non-delivery messages. I don't know if the password change stopped the spammers or if, having totally abused my account, they abandoned it and moved on to somebody else's.

It woud be nice to think that the browser software could have a built-in alarm which sets off if it is using 50% CPU, that is not normal processing power and could quickly shut down the spam activity???

My account and firefox are all back to normal now.

Regards,

sirius(ly)blue.
