The default home page in Firefox 4 rc1 search function does not work. I've tried several things from support to change the default search by resetting several things in about:config, but none seem to make a difference.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I was already using the default theme and restarted in safe mode, but the default home page search still doesn't work.

I got it to work, but it required a complete uninstall of the upgraded Firefox 4 using Revo uninstaller including cleaning up the registry. I then installed Firefox 4 and it worked. I used the FEBE 7 Beta Addon and CLEO 5 beta to get my Addons back. I didn't reinstall preferences since I was afraid that would cause the problem again. Hope that helps.

I had this problem, too. It was frustrating. Perhaps the following will help:

Two useful links:

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2136707&p=10558655 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637639

The "recipe" fix I used:

1) Type about:config in your URL bar. 2) In the "Filter" bar, type "dom.storage.enabled". It will show up under "preference name" below. Toggle it so that it reads "true" through the use of right-clicking. 3) Next in the "Filter" bar, type "browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID". It, too, will show up as the sole entry under "preference name". Right click on it and "reset" it. 4) Restart the browser. Homepage should work now.

Good luck!
